Memories stir when the unpredictable meanderings of history, experiences, situations, and conflicts render your Home unsettlingly "uncanny" (Unheimlich [Freud 1919]). ‘Home’ becomes strangely unfamiliar, often triggering discomfort or fear because it blurs the line between the familiar and the unknown.
In this solo exhibition, Ilana Salama Ortar showcases oil paintings, drawings, photograms, objects and blown glass capsules. Within their veiled and unveiled layers lies something that feels strangely familiar yet simultaneously unsettling and unexpected. Each piece, whether viewed alone or together, challenges our perceptions of what "Home" means.
